Our Story
Santhosh Hospital was born out of the vision of its founder — the Late Dr. Vasudevan Bharathan M.B.B.S, F.C.G.P — to set up a single super-speciality hospital dedicated entirely to piles and proctology (Perianal & Anorectal Disorders).
While serving as a Medical Officer for the Government of Kerala, Dr. Bharathan became greatly concerned about the plight of piles patients who suffered silently and went on prolonging the treatment due to the lack of treatment facilities and the social stigma associated with the disease. With a strong resolve to help such patients and bring in advanced treatment facilities focused on investigation and treatment of Piles and other Ano-Rectal and Colonic disorders, Dr. Bharathan resigned from government practice and opened Santhosh Clinic at M.G. Road, Thalssery in the year 1969.
From its humble beginnings, the clinic grew leaps and bounds due to the painstaking efforts and dedication of Dr. Bharathan and the trust placed in him by his patients. Dr. Bharathan modernised and expanded the clinic, by including a wide array of medical facilities and bringing in advanced treatment procedures. In 1981, the hospital was shifted to a larger and more modern building to meet new requirements as well as the growing demands for its services and was renamed Santhosh Hospital for Piles and Proctology.
As the hospital continued its journey in to the 21st century Dr. Santosh Bharathan, M.B.B.S, M.S., F.A.G.E and Dr. Rajesh Bharathan, M.B.B.S, M.S. along with a team of dedicated paramedical staff trained in proctology have been carrying forward the legacy and life's mission of Dr. Bharathan.
Today, Santhosh Hospital stands proudly as the largest hospital and research center exclusively for Piles & Proctology in the world with the landmark achievement of having treated over 2,50,000 patients.
